Multi-layer
PCB with By-pass Capacitor Grid
All phyCORE® boards
have a 6 to 12-layer PCB, with
-
at least two
dedicated layers for Ground
-
at least one Vcc
layer and
-
at least three
signal routing layers
Moreover, the top and
bottom signal-routing layers of the PCB feature a by-pass capacitor
grid in which 1 nF and 100 nF capacitors are arranged in a
checkerboard fashion, thus driving all noise and other impedance to
GND in order to minimize EMI.
Implementing a modular
phyCORE Single Board Computer subassembly in your target application
offers the benefit of economical use of multi-layered PCBs. In most
cases target circuitry supports only interface and passive
components, and therefore require minimal layers. To contrast,
phyCORE subassemblies provide a drop-in microcontroller circuitry
that is augmented by external Flash and RAM memory devices, as well
as secondary Ethernet and CAN controllers. Such active logic
circuitry requires multi-layered PCBs for optimal electrical and
thermal operation. Use a phyCORE subassembly and forgo the need for
multi-layered target circuitry.
